Since 2013, the program has funded a unique opportunity for interested residents to experience the practice of surgery internationally with annual trips to Guyana and Guatemala through the GW MFA Doctors International Organization. This organization is led by program director Dr. Khashayar Vaziri and anesthesiologist Dr. Paul Dangerfield. This experience is typically offered to residents during their senior resident years.
Doctors International provides a wonderful opportunity to:
- Gain clinical experience in the delivery of surgical care in developing countries
- Increase awareness of the barriers to health care in a resource-limited environment
- Explore international health as a potential career path.
