We offer a 2-year Fellowship yearly through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).
The Acute Care Surgery Fellowship uses the Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery Fellowship Application Service (SAFAS) to process and review candidates' eligibility. Each applicant must be in good standing at an AGCME-approved General Surgery Residency. Three Letters of Recommendation (from the Department Chair/Program Director, a Trauma/Acute Care Surgeon, and one surgeon at large), an official transcript, a personal statement, a curriculum vitae, scores from Parts I,II,and III of the USMLE as well as the American Board of Surgery in Training Exam (ABSITE), and photograph should be submitted to SAFAS.
All information, which you wish to be reviewed, must be submitted through the SAFAS. If the Acute Care Surgery Program Office requires any supplementary material, we will contact you.
When all application materials have been received, selected individuals will be offered a web-based interview. Interviews are held in June and July. At that time, the applicant will have the opportunity to meet several of the fellowship faculty members and discuss the training program with our current Fellow.
Our department will e-mail the invitations to the applicants selected for an interview. The interview dates are filled on a first-response-first-confirmed basis. We are committed to not offering more interviews than interview spots.
The match lists are submitted according to the NRMP timeline, and results of the match are released by the NRMP on match day. The specific dates are listed with the material you receive from the Match Program.
A word of additional housekeeping: Registering for SAFAS does not result in automatic registration with NRMP. An applicant must be registered with the NRMP to match at the George Washington University.
We appreciate your interest in the Acute Care Surgery Fellowship at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and wish you all the best in your training and career.
