The Division of Plastic Surgery at SMHS is engaged in the training of highly competent surgeons who have developed clinical proficiency in the management of congenital and acquired plastic surgery defects. Intellectual accomplishments are stressed, as are leadership roles in the surgical community. The program begins with bedside and operating room teaching, includes a full conference and didactic teaching schedule, and extends to fundamental basic science investigation.
All first year residents in the General Surgery Training Program spend a formal rotation in the Division of Plastic Surgery. Here they evaluate new and old patients, participate in surgery, and manage hospitalized patients. There is an increasing level of responsibility for these activities as their training progresses and their experience increases.
