Heather Lanier-Diaz, MD

Resident Bio

I grew up in northeast Texas, went to college at Baylor University, earned my Master’s in Public Health here at GW and then went to medical school at UT Southwestern. Growing up in a small town with limited healthcare access and having the opportunities during my childhood to serve many low-resource communities internationally, I knew I wanted to go into a medical career to make a difference in the lives of those in need. My journey has given me a passion for a surgical career focusing on improving healthcare access to rural and underserved communities both close to home and abroad. I chose to come to GW because I knew that the academic yet close-knit culture would help me thrive during my training. I also am humbled and excited to be in our nation’s capital where there are a plethora of opportunities to engage with policy and social reform. Also the beautiful runs around National Mall were worth the move too!
